What does Mardi Gras day look like in New Orleans? Here's the view from Fat Tuesday. (49)

It's not just any other Tuesday in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mardi Gras Day, known as Fat Tuesday for those who celebrate Carnival in the Deep South, is a holiday of excess, revelry and all things purple, green and gold.

It's a day of parades, Zulu coconuts, and celebrating the history and traditions of the Crescent City.

It's a day of all things weird, quirky, sparkly and fabulous. A day where riders toss parade throws at hollering families and drag queens roast contestants in a Bourbon Street costume contest.

It's a day when the mayor toasts Mardi Gras royalty and the woman who likely inventing flashing for beads returns back to New Orleans with a bright pink sign, encouraging others bare it all for the sake of Fat Tuesday.

Here are photos and videos that show what it's like in New Orleans on Mardi Gras day.
