Looks like a higher level of polish on the toes. Did you use a hard wax pigmented polish on these? They are Walnut, correct?
Walnut, yes. Saphir light brown pate-de-luxe and then mirror gloss in neutral (if you can believe it). A labor of love.

Yes, I believe it, particularly your use of neutral mirror polish on the toes. I have been uncertain whether or not to use any pigmented cream polish on my Walnut AEs out of concern for the finish. I do have Saphir light brown polish.

McAllisters in Chestnut Cobbler today. These were made in the 1980s. I know that cobbler leather has a rap on it but I like how these and other AE cobbler shoes from this era have developed a very antiqued patina. I am wearing a newish pair of teal trousers from Paul Stuart that I find to be versatile. And by the way, Paul Stuart is running their occasional 70% off sale starting today if anyone is interested.

Maiden voyage of these burgundy shell MacNeils, purchased a while back as new/old stock. These were a special order, then not worn, made in the early-mid 1990s as I can best tell. As old as they are, not much patina development as they are new. And not stored with shoe trees based on the small folds in the vamps. They had a somewhat furry granular surface when I first got them, which cleaned up nicely with brushing.
